Airsoft bio-degradable BB's

Similar to the paintball activity, there is a new game that many kids have hooked onto called "airsoft". You shoot these tiny pellets, or BBs as we call them. Conservation Agent Teresa G. has encountered some areas on Shelton Open Space where the typical teenager hang-out debris occurs, along with this airsoft residue.

In WalMart they sell the equipment, and both the plastic BBs along with bio-degradable BBs. It is reasonable to assume that users are not going around to pick up their shot BBs. Even when on private property it has an effect on ecology with wildlife, so this is not just an "on open space" issue. Rather than have more plastic in the environment / ecosystem, perhaps the State could consider mandating that the biodegradable version be used since it is already available. For example.

Hi Tom,

I saw on the message board something about you
requesting Larry Miller introduce legislation about
BBs -- was wondering what that's about. Thanks!

what business is it of the state to legislate airsoft bbs? we have a preponderance of useless legislation already, why not go directly to the kid with the toy gun and explain to him the reasoning for bio bbs. the government is not our savior, we have the ability to help ourselves you know...

It is a little known fact that the Bio-degradeable BBs let out 10% more CO2 emissions while Bio-degrading than the "Non-Biodegradable" ones. Another little known fact is that the "Un-Biodegradeable" BBs only take about two more years to biodegrade than the "Biodegradeable" ones.

I understand that the bio-degradable bb's take 200-400 days to degrade. Within this time wildlife can ingest them. Does anyone know what effect the regular plastic bb;s or biodegradable bb's have? Would they pass through a birds system with no problems?

I have swallowed BBs accidentally. I was not hurt. I doubt birds will either. But what bird in it's right mind would eat a plastic BB?

so does anyone know then if it would cause a problem with animals, aside from birds? Perhaps it could hurt a person's pets. Cats, dogs, or horse?

Are you allowed to play airsoft in the woods? The signs say no paintball but nothing about airsoft. As long as you do not shoot at people who are not playing, is that allowed?

Bioval Bio BB's are the only "True Bio BB" & they are approved by the USA Department of Natural Resources. I do not use any other Bio BB product since other companies use PLA or P-Life in their Bio BB's. www.BiovalBBB.eu
